Chichia London
London-based designer Christine Mhando graduated from Kent University with an honours degree, in 2002. After her studies, Mhando gained invaluable experience working for high-end designers as well as womenswear brands and suppliers for the high-street Mecca. With the knowledge she acquired, Tanzanian-born Mhando launched the label that bears her childhood nickname, Chichia in 2007.
The Chichia ready to wear range is an amalgamation of both continents and cultures from which the designer was raised. The label’s signature transpires from the artful application of the “Khanga”, a traditional east African cotton printed fabric used by local women as wraps. Each collection consists of an eclectic range of dresses and separates in modern wearable silhouettes and styles in a variety of succulent colours. Chichia’s intelligent use of eye-catching colourful prints in natural fabrics intermixed with beautiful embellishments and intricate detailing makes every piece uniquely innovative and a timeless addition to anyone’s wardrobe.
Currently stocked in boutiques throughout the UK and online, Chichia’s extensive press attention in distinguished magazines and independent newspapers have warranted the label a place on the London Fashion Week circuit showcasing in fashion events such as Untold and Fashion Diversity. Exhibiting at Swahili Fashion week in 2009 and 2010 consecutively as well as ARISE Magazine fashion week 2011, Chichia has been recognised as an international African designer who modernises and transforms traditional illustrative East African textiles into stylish and considered fashionable attire.
I got a few emails about this link not working in the original post. So for those of you who didn't hear it the first time... and if you wanna hear what I sound like when I'm freaking out in my head... press play on the video. I had to upload to my youtube channel to get it to post.
Thanks for letting me know!
New arrivals at The Little Starfish next week. Will post pics
One of my favourite Miss Antigua winners, Shelana George, is the host of a new entertainment weekly show. You will remember I featured Lana before on the blog here. Check her out in her newest venture... and see my styling skills... she is rocking a TEA tunic!
This is the final product from almost 6 hours of shooting- 30 seconds of video!
This ad was lots of work, and I'm pleased with the results. My "road warrior, Tameka (on da beach wid a few club sodas) , Xiea Hull, Stacy & Lal Humphreys, Mozilla, Simone, Nigel, Andre, Omari, ( this is starting to sound like one of those annoying thank you speeches).... THANK YOU!!!
I suspect we will have to do this again sometime soon- when the full line of tunics are in the shop. For now, I couldn't be happier.
This video is coming soon to a cinema near you!
xx
All tunics shown in the video are available at the store as well.
I was on cashier duty with the bf as bodyguard (see his arm peeking through mine in the last pic?...LOL) and he was a great relief cashier HAHA, so I tried to dress for the heat... and the need to run around .... a lot. I could barely get up this morning... SIGH
So I wore/carried:
Money bag- (LOL) Benetton
Tunic - The Little Starfish- check us out in Redcliffe Quay (LOL)
Hat- Inizio
loved her little floral dress
mom n daughter- great shot - more preciousness to follow
I was stationed at Turner's stall, and the most popular item was coming out of these frying pans- fritters. CONCH, CRAB, FISH. There was a long wait- but nobody complained so I guess they were worth it.
